Houck, Austbo, DeBoer win ski races
MT. ASHLAND — North Medford's Tanner Houck won both races in a boys and girls slalom doubleheader at Mt. Ashland Ski Area Saturday.
An extra race was run to make up for one that had been postponed.
Houck won the first competition with a combined time of 1:20.64. His first run was 39.92 seconds and his second was 40.72.
In the second race, he had runs of 38.42 and 38.27 for a winning total time of 1:16.69. Ashland's Dane Reynolds was second and St. Mary's Lucas Hill was third in the first event, and in the second, North Medford's Nolan Morris was second and Hill was third.
On the girls side, Kariana Austbo of Ashland won the opener, making runs of 46.30 and 46.94 for a 1:33.24 time. Cascade Christian's Haley DeBoer was second and Ashland's Kiara Hills third.
In the second race, DeBoer was first, going 44.77 and 45.83 for a combined 1:30.60. Ashland's Kali de Saint Phal was second and South Medford's Phoebe Larson was third.
PERRYDALE 30, ROGUE VALLEY ADVENTIST 29:Rogue Valley Adventist made it to the brink of the Class 1A state tournament before Perrydale shattered the Red Tail Hawks' hopes at RVA.
Rogue Valley Adventist led much of the contest, but the Pirates' depth and pressing defense took a toll in the final three minutes, forcing a handful of turnovers and turning the tide.
The Mountain Valley League champion Hawks finished the season with a 20-3 record.
Zoe Belovitch had 11 points, eight rebounds and four blocks for Rogue Valley Adventist. Savanah Zamora added nine points, six assists four rebounds and three steals.
Perrydale (22-7), of the Casco League, advanced to the state tournament next week in Baker, where it will meet Jordan Valley in the quarterfinals.
