Grizzlies swept by Yreka
ASHLAND — Gabby Heiken provided four hits for the Ashland softball team on Thursday but offense was hard to come by for the Grizzlies against Yreka which used two big early leads to come away with a nonleague sweep, 12-0 and 12-6, at U.S. Cellular Community Park.
Heiken was one of two Grizzlies to have a hit in the opener, then went 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs in the second game. The opener lasted just five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
After getting blown out in the opener and falling behind 7-0 in the second game, Ashland showed some fight by scoring three runs in the bottom of the third. A single by Heiken and a bunt single by Alia Gorringe set the table for Shelby Brown, who came through with a two-run double.
Brown finished with a pair of hits while Gorringe came up with two hits and an RBI for the Grizzlies in Game 2.
