PREP BASEBALL: Grafton, Sandoval lead Tornado past Sheldon

Devyn Grafton’s two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a 2-all tie, propelling the North Medford baseball team to a 4-2 Southwest Conference victory over Sheldon at U.S. Cellular Community Park on Thursday.

Grafton’s two-out knock to right-center scored both Brady Buchanan and Jeremiah Huffman after Buchanan reached base with a single and Huffman got aboard with a fielder’s choice bunt while attempting to advance Jett Carpenter to second base.

Ryan Sandoval was solid and steady at the mound for the Black Tornado (6-5, 1-2 SWC), going all seven innings to allow two runs — just one earned — on five hits, two walks and a hit batter. He also struck out three.

The Irish (6-7, 1-2) had just knotted the score 2-all in the top of the fifth on Dawson Prychel’s RBI ground-out that scored Morgan, who led off with a triple.
