PREP ROUNDUP: Serean gem helps Pirates split with Vikings

KLAMATH FALLS — Liam Serean had it working from the mound for the Phoenix baseball team in the nightcap of Monday’s Skyline Conference doubleheader with Mazama.

Serean fired six shutout innings, allowing just three hits to go with 10 strikeouts as the Pirates earned a 4-0 victory after the Vikings claimed the opener with a 9-1 win.

Serean, whose gem came just days after tossing a shutout against North Valley, received three of the four Pirate runs from Brandon Zanni, who finished 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Both Braeden Watts and Mason Stella had two hits apiece while both Watts and Logan Jenkins came up with RBI singles in the fourth inning, where the Pirates (10-7, 4-2 Skyline Conference) moved out to a 3-0 lead.

In the opener, the Pirates had no answer for Vikings starting pitcher Bailey Whitlock, who limited them to one run on three hits.

The Vikings moved to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in Skyline play.
