North's Sandoval leads all-state trio

North Medford senior center fielder Ryan Sandoval led a trio of local athletes in earning Class 6A all-state acclaim this past spring in baseball or softball.

Sandoval was a first-team all-state selection after batting .386 for the Black Tornado with 21 runs and 23 RBIs. He finished with three doubles, two triples and three home runs to go with 16 stolen bases and a .505 on-base percentage.

South Medford sophomore catcher Bennett Thompson was an honorable mention pick after batting .376 with 18 runs and 16 RBIs overall.

In softball, North Medford junior shortstop Lauren Barry was a third-team selection on the infield. She batted .509 with 18 runs, 13 RBIs and zero strikeouts in Southwest Conference play to spark the Black Tornado.
