Crater boys open season with victory

CENTRAL POINT — Crater’s boys soccer team did the best thing possible to put the sting of a tough 2018 behind it Thursday, winning its season opener in a nonleague match against Roseburg.

Jayden Vranes had a hat trick as the Comets downed the visiting Indians, 4-1.

Last season, Crater went 2-11-1, failing to get a victory in its final eight games.

Against Roseburg, Vranes, a senior forward, tallied an unassisted goal at 11:36 to knot the score. Roseburg struck first inside the opening four minutes.

Vranes scored again at 24:19, with an assist from Jacob Harnois, to make it 2-1 at halftime. His final goal came at 58:25, courtesy of a Ben Plankenhorn assist.

Harnois made it 4-1 with goal just before the match ended.
