6A/5A FOOTBALL: Bradd's five TDs power North Medford

PORTLAND — Devin Bradd erupted for five touchdowns and rushed for 162 yards to lead North Medford to its second straight lopsided victory, 62-30 over Jefferson in nonconference play Friday.

In a game marred by penalties — the Black Tornado had 17 and the Democrats 20 — North Medford managed to put together plenty of offense.

“It was kind of an ugly game,” said Tornado coach Steve Turner. “We played hard, they played hard, but the penalties threw the rhythm of the game off. Neither team could get much of a rhythm going when you have a penalty every other play.”

Bradd, who carried 14 times, returned a kickoff 77 yards for a score to go with four rushing touchdowns.

Jett Carpenter caught five passes for 117 yards and a 37-yard touchdown.

Danny Cosette had a fine all-around game for North Medford, intercepting a pass and returning it 42 yards for a touchdown, kicking field goals of 15 and 23 yards and making six extra points.

North Medford allowed Jefferson only six points in the first half and kept star running back Damir Collins largely in check with its first-string defense. Collins had 204 yards rushing, but about half of that came in the fourth quarter against reserves.

GRANTS PASS 12, SUMMIT 7: At Grants Pass, quarterback Chase Coyle found Joel Valadez for a 94-yard touchdown pass to put Grants Pass on the scoreboard first and the Cavemen defense did the rest, griding out a nonconference victory.

The Cavemen (1-1) did all their scoring in the second quarter. Coyle tossed his second touchdown to Juan Velazquez to make the score 12-0.

Coyle was 9-for-16 for 141 yards while Valadez finished with three catches for 100 yards and Jake Henricks rushed for 114 yards on 18 carries.

The Grants Pass defense limited Summit to just 35 yards passing and forced two turnovers.
