PREP ROUNDUP: Pryor's triumph paces Ashland at Classic
EUGENE — Ashland’s Reed Pryor and Arlo Davis finished one-two to lead the Grizzlies to third place in the Class 6A/5A boys division at the Northwest Classic cross country meet at Lane Community College Saturday.
Pryor, a junior, covered the 5,000-meter course in 15 minutes, 18.80 seconds — four seconds off his personal best set a week earlier.
Davis, a senior, finished in 15:34.50. Teammate Cameron Stein placed fifth in 15:56.60.
Thirty-four teams participated. Summit captured the meet with 119 points, followed by South Eugene (123) and Ashland (127). Grants Pass was 14th.
In the 6A/5A girls division, Grants Pass was ninth and Ashland was 23rd, led by Sage Reddish, who was 40th in 20:16.60.
In the 4A/3A/2A/1A boys meet, Cascade Christian’s Jake Sorani placed 14th in 17:13.90, while Elwood Hosking of Phoenix finished 29th (17:42.30). As a team, St. Mary’s finished 22nd and was led by freshman Cody Arnold (18:54.40).
In the small-school girls meet, St. Mary’s placed 14th and Phoenix was 15th despite leading runner Sophia Stubblefield competing in the 6A/5A race. Stubblefield finished 24th overall in that race, breaking the 20-minute barrier for the first time (19:33.70).
In the 4A/3A/2A/1A girls race, Susanna Schatz paced the Crusaders (22:44.41) while Rose Hehn (22:58.19) was Cascade Christian’s top finisher and Lucy Newell (23:11.47) led Phoenix.

TUALATIN TOURNAMENT: At Tualatin, North Medford won its pool but ran out of gas in gold bracket play against Oregon City despite strong showings from Lauren Barry, Rylie Stewart, Jackie Aukusitino and Jenna Sandstrom.
The Black Tornado opened pool play with a 25-22, 25-19 win over host Tualatin, then split with Churchill before topping Lincoln, 27-25, 25-17.
Oregon City used a late surge to eliminate North Medford, 20-25, 26-24, 15-10.
Barry had 14 of her 39 kills in the tourney against the Pioneers, while Aukusitino managed seven of her 12 kills in bracket play. Barry also finished with seven aces overall and Stewart had six as North Medford racked up 33 aces in the tourney.
Sandstrom added four stuff blocks to help North at the net, while Catherine Rostel passed at a 100 percent clip against the Pioneers.
SOUTH EUGENE TOURNAMENT: At Eugene, South Medford advanced to the semifinals of the gold bracket before being eliminated by eventual champion Sisters in the 12-team event, 25-17, 25-19.
The Panthers finished as the No. 8 seed after pool play when they rotated a lot of players into the lineup, then upset top-seeded Grants Pass to open bracket play, 27-25, 16-25, 15-12.
Freshman starters Tes Wente and Katie Clevenger had big tournament showings, with each posting 25 kills overall. Wente also came up with 11 blocks.
Sophomore Emily Fliegel added 21 kills and junior Alana Jeannot contributed 35 digs. Senior libero Maisen Wauge had to sit out two matches due to illnes, including the semifinal match, but still managed 31 digs.
NORTH VALLEY TOURNAMENT: At Merlin, Klamath Union downed St. Mary’s, 26-24, 25-23, in the first round of bracket play in the North Valley Tournament.
St. Mary’s earlier lost to North Valley and defeated McLoughlin in pool play.
Against Klamath Union, the Crusaders’ Natalie Thickett had nine kills, and she finished with 24 kills and 25 digs on the day.
Ashley Gurr had three aces in the finale and six for the day. She also had 35 assists overall. Grace Johnson and Maddie Mills each had 10 digs against KU. For the day, Abbie Christman notched nine kills and 22 digs.
PROSPECT 3, GLENDALE 1: At Prospect, Lexy Stockebrand had 24 assists, seven aces and seven digs to propel Prospect to the 16-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-16 nonleague win.
The Cougars (3-4) also got strong play from Annalee Breiholz and Leeanna Lands. Breiholz recorded nine kills, six aces and nine digs, and Lands had 13 digs and three aces.
