LOCAL ROUNDUP: Crusaders trounce Rogue River

ROGUE RIVER — The St. Mary’s boys soccer team tallied six first-half goals en route to a 7-0 victory over host Rogue River on Wednesday.

Senior Milan Bobek and freshman Cooper Hopkins knocked in two goals apiece for the Crusaders (4-0-1, 3-0 Special District 5), who also picked up single goals from both Nathan Sternenberg and William Kranenburg.

Goalkeeper Hunter Holdermann, who posted a shutout in the first half, was able to get into the scoring action as well by finding the back of the net to account for the Crusaders’ second-half goal.

The Chieftains dropped to 1-3 overall and in Special District 5 play.

SOUTH EUGENE 2, SOUTH MEDFORD 1: At Eugene, South Medford was quick to answer South Eugene’s ice-breaker goal in the second half but The Axe scored with just two minutes remaining to survive in the Southwest Conference match.

Kam Calhoun knotted the score 1-all in the 50th minute for the Panthers (3-3, 0-2 SWC) on an assist from Gus Lara five minutes after The Axe broke the scoreless tie.

Calhoun was outstanding throughout the contest controlling possession at midfield while Angus Stringer and Peyton Terry stood out as well.

The Panthers picked up two saves from goalkeeper Jude Pannell.

Men’s Soccer

ROGUE COMMUNITY COLLEGE 1, SOUTHWESTERN OREGON COMMUNITY COLLEGE 1: Jhoel Sarraude scored the equalizer off an assist by Luis Cerna in the 69th minute as the Ospreys came back from a 1-0 deficit to earn a draw in Northwest Athletic Conference action.

The visitors scored on a penalty kick in the 51st minute. RCC is 3-3-3, 1-2-1 in NWAC play. SWOCC is 2-4-1, 2-1-1.

Women’s Soccer

ROGUE COMMUNITY COLLEGE 1, CLACKAMAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE 0: At Oregon City, Taylor Marshall scored the only goal of the game in the 10th minute as the Ospreys improved to 2-5-2 overall, 2-1-1 in the NWAC.

CCC fell to 0-5-1, 0-3-1 in league play.
