Phoenix boys win big

KLAMATH FALLS — Sophomore Victor Martinez recorded a hat trick by the 18th minute of play and finished with a career-high four goals to help the Phoenix boys soccer team run away with an 8-1 victory over Klamath Union on Monday.

Martinez broke the ice for the Pirates (7-1-2, 5-0-1 Skyline Conference) in the ninth minute before scoring again in the 10th, 18th and 41st minutes.

Cain Vargas tallied back-to-back goals in the 50th and 56th minutes for the Pirates while Randy Rodriguez dished out a career-best four assists.

Pirates goalkeeper Tucker Speaks made four saves on the afternoon.

Girls Soccer

PHOENIX 2, KLAMATH UNION 0: At Talent, Sandra Villa put Phoenix on the scoreboard in the 12th minute and the Pirates used strong defensive play to pick up its first Skyline Conference victory of the season at Colver Field.

Sofia Rodriguez added an insurance goal for the Pirates (3-4-2, 1-4-1 Skyline) in the 57th minute when Alondra Ruvalcaba dribbled up field and found Rodriguez with a through ball.

Goalkeeper Emma Truex registered seven saves for the Pirates, which outshot the Pelicans (5-5, 2-4), 15-8.
