PREP ROUNDUP: South Medford pulls away from Axe

South Medford used a big third quarter to pull away for a 63049 Southwest Conference girls basketball victory over South Eugene Thursday at South Medford High.

The second-ranked Panthers outscored the The Axe 19-6 in the third after trailing 32-29 at halftime.

Kaili Chamberlin scored seven of her 11 points in the third for South Medford (18-3, 6-0 SWC), and Shakia Teague-Perry scored seven or her 10 points in the period and also had eight rebounds in the contest.

Emma Schmerbach, who had five rebounds and two steals, and Toni Coleman each scored 12 to pace the Panthers.

Bella Stone pulled in nine rebounds and made three steals for South Medford, which was without 6-foot-2 post Sierra Logue, who is out with a knee injury..

Sofia Megert tallied 21 points for South Eugene (10-11, 3-3).

Boys Basketball

CHILOQUIN 67, PROSPECT 58: At Chiloquin, Prospect had a couple players in foul trouble and couldn’t overtake Chiloquin in the Mountain Valley League contest.

The Cougars (4-21, 3-15 MVL) got 21 points and 10 rebounds from Jadon Taylor. Theo James added 11 points and eight rebounds, and Boden Perkins had eight points and three assists.

Prospect trailed 36-30 at halftime.
