South’s Boutwell, North’s Morris lead state skiers
Five skiers representing the Southern Oregon Ski Education Foundation high school league placed in the top 25 during the alpine state championships last month at Mt. Hood Skibowl.
The local contingent was paced on the girls side by South Medford’s Jaeda Boutwell, who placed 11th in the combined results, and on the boys side by North Medford’s Nolan Morris, who was 14th.
Boutwell was 16th in giant slalom with a time of 1 minute, 28.27 seconds, and 14th in the slalom in 1:23.61, for a combined time of 2:51.88.
Ashland’s Kari Austbo was 20th with a combined time of 2:55.13, and North Medford’s Hadley Dunlevy was 22nd in 2:55.39.
Morris placed 37th in giant slalom (1:25.72) and seventh in slalom (1:21.03) for his total time of 2:46.75.
North Medford’s Tyler Dunlevy was 15th in 2:46.80.
Other local girls to complete both races were Ashland’s Mira Saturen (26th), South Medford’s Jay Lodge (52nd), Ashland’s Indira Frieder (53rd), Ashland’s Jane Cruce (56th), South Medford’s Allie Fairbanks (57th), South Medford’s Brooke Fairbanks (63rd) and South Medford’s Sienna Roberge (73rd).
Other local boys to finish were South Medford’s Ethan Cox (33rd), South Medford’s Triston Lexow (35th), North Medford’s Liam Gurney (36th), Grants Pass’ Josh Smith (40th) and Grants Pass’ Evan Riggs (57th).
Thirty Southern Oregon skiers participated in the championships March 4-5. Other schools represented were Crater, St. Mary’s and Klamath Union.
