PREP ROUNDUP: Late surge carries North past Eagle Point

North Medford scored 10 unanswered runs to pull away from Eagle Point and secure a 16-6, six-inning triumph in Southern Oregon Conference baseball Thursday night.

The host Black Tornado (7-2) earned its sixth straight victory behind an 11-hit attack that saw North pull away from a 6-all tie with four runs in the fifth and six more in the sixth.

Cody Borraggine’s two-run double highlighted the fifth-inning outburst, which also benefited from walks and erorrs by the Eagles (3-8).

In the sixth, RBI singles by Aiden Horsley, Jeremiah Robbins and Gavin Schmidt helped break the game open.

Borraggine went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs, Horsley 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, and Schmidt was 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Tyler Dunlevy plated a pair of runs and relieved Tre Newmann on the mound with six strikeouts and no hits allowed in 2 2/3 innings for North.

Stuart Lund had three RBIs for the Eagles, who saw Jace Ellis double and drive in a run and Dexter Jones add an RBI.

NORTH MEDFORD 13, EAGLE POINT 3, 5 inn: North Medford scored nine runs in the first inning to set the pace in the SOC contest at North Medford High.

Shahar Miles ripped a three-run double to cap the uprising, and Hannah Drysdale rapped a two-run single. Alyssa Hartzheim added a run-scoring single in the five-hit frame.

Neveah Smith was 3-for-3 with three runs for the Black Tornado (7-3), and Sara Hamlin was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Samara Miles, Matlyn Leetch and Emily Dunn each scored twice.

Eagle Point (3-8) was held to four hits by freshman Gabby Urban, who got her first varsity win. Urban struck out five and didn’t walk anyone. Only one of the three runs she allowed was earned.

ROGUE RIVER 7, BONANZA 3: At Rogue River, Avery Bushey had two triples and scored twice in the leadoff spot for Rogue River and Ayrica Hansen went 3-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and three stolen bases in the victory Wednesday.

Presley Tiger picked up the pitching victory for Rogue River (5-0), striking out one with three walks and six hits allowed thanks to solid defensive support.

Tiger also went 2-for-4 with one RBI against Bonanza (2-5).

ROSEBURG 6, NORTH MEDFORD 2: North Medford singles players Hailey Dolmage and Hayley Chung scored the lone triumphs for the Black Tornado at North Medford High.

Dolmage topped Roseburg’s Symone Rust at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0, and Chung scored a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ellise Prowell at No. 4 singles.

ASHLAND 4, GRANTS PASS 4: At Ashland, Grace Smith and Bridget Burr scored singles victories and Ashland won the top two doubles matches during windy conditions to pace the Grizzlies at Hunter Park.

Sofia Shelton and Talia Vivrett teamed at No. 1 doubles to beat Grants Pass’ Lauren Robinson and Paige Pastrell, 7-5, 6-2, and Ashland’s No. 2 tandem of Sachi Moran and Savannah Witnauer won in straight sets as well, 6-3, 6-2 over Amelia Gladbach and Alyssa Jarred.

ROSEBURG 5, NORTH MEDFORD 1: North Medford’s bright spot was a triumph at No. 1 doubles in the match against visiting Roseburg.

The Black Tornado’s Casey Haggins and Robert Doshier rebounded from singles losses and teamed up for an 8-3 victory over Chase Forsloft and Gian Ambrosini.

All the matches were pro sets.

CRATER SWEEPS: At Eagle Point, Crater’s girls and boys each had a double winner as the Comets defeated Eagle Point in a dual meet Wednesday, the girls winning 92-34 and the boys 82-53.

Crater’s Allison Waters claimed the shot put (32-0 1/2) and the discus (95-9) to lead the girls. She also ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay.

Eagle Point’s Makenna Maldenado was a double winner, taking the 100 (13.23) and the 200 (28.39).

In the boys meet, the Comets’ Gabriel Williams captured the shot put (41-9 1/2) and discus (121-5).

For Eagle Point, John Shawnego won the 100 (11.55) and the 200 (24.13).
