LOCAL ROUNDUP: Law keys Challengers’ late run in win

Senior guard Morgan Law poured in 10 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter as the Cascade Christian boys basketball team took charge down the stretch to beat Santiam Christian 52-44 Monday at Cascade Christian High School.

After a solid opening quarter, the Challengers’ offense sputtered in the second period where they generated just two points and were tied 17-all with Santiam at halftime.

The two squads headed into the fourth quarter knotted at 29-all, but Law sparked the Challengers (6-0) with a pair of 3-pointers.

Levi Marincus also scored 14 points and produced four rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Austin Maurer went for eight points, seven rebounds, four blocks and a pair of steals.

The Challengers picked up nine points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals from Cody Reece.

Santiam Christian dropped to 3-2 with the loss.

HOSANNA-TRIAD 76, PROSPECT 40: At Klamath Falls, three different Prospect players scored in double figures, but it wasn’t enough against Hosanna-Triad.

Prospect (0-4) was led by Boden Perkins’ 13 points. Perkins also chipped in four assists and three steals.

Theo James recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three assists, while Andrew Hammer had 12 points.

Hosanna-Triad (6-2), which has won three straight, was led by Micah Young’s 20 points.

American Legion Baseball

MUSTANGS 12, YUBA-SUTTER 0, 5 inn.: At Faifield, Calif., Cody Borraggine drove in four runs and Tanner Douglas three to back the three-hit pitching of Gavin Schmidt as Medford concluded play in the Fairfield Expos Memorial Day Tournament.

Borraggine was 1-for-3 with a single but produced plenty of runs and scored twice himself. Douglas was 2-for-2 and scored once.

Jace Miller was 2-for-2 and scored three runs for Medford (3-1), and Zac Ankeny doubled and drove in two runs. Eli Westrick and Rowan Amann each added two runs.

Schmidt struck out two and walked while pitching the shutout.

The Mustangs open their home schedule at 6 p.m. today against the Grants Pass Nuggets at U.S. Cellular Community Park.
