PREP ROUNDUP: Law nets 30 to propel Challengers

Cascade Christian’s boys basketball team ran its record to 9-0 with a runaway win over visiting Brookings-Harbor Thursday night, with senior Morgan Law knocking down six 3-pointers en route to a game-high 30 points.

Law was on fire early, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers to kickstart a first quarter that saw the Challengers build a 28-13 advantage on the Bruins.

Law finished with 10 of his points in the first quarter, then added another two 3-pointers during a second-quarter surge that found him at 22 points by intermission.

Senior teammates Matt McPheeters (16 points, six rebounds) and Levi Marincus (14 points) also reached double figures, along with freshman Austin Maurer (10 points, five blocks) for Cascade Christian.

Junior guard Cody Reece contributed seven assists and Law had four for the Challengers.

Jake Beaman scored 15 points and Brad Russell had 14 to lead Brookings-Harbor (2-4).

ASHLAND 40, GRANTS PASS 31: At Grants Pass, Ashland committed a season-low six turnovers and played sound defensively en route to a road win against Grants Pass.

The Grizzlies (4-5) led virtually the entire way, trailing the Cavemen (2-7) all of 2-0 before taking the lead for good in a low-scoring first quarter.

Senior wing Finn Hilden scored a game-high 16 points and hit three of Ashland’s five 3-pointers. Sophomore center Egan Shields added nine points, while junior wing Hawthorn Lapierre chipped in seven points.

Ashland, which swept the season series against Grants Pass, led 24-17 at the break and limited the Cavemen to just four third-quarter points.

Juniors Trent Anderson and Miles Anderson both scored six points to pace Grants Pass.

DAYS CREEK 48, ROGUE VALLEY ADVENTIST 21: At Days Creek, Days Creek used an impressive second-half showing to pull away for the win against Rogue Valley Adventist.

Days Creek (4-4) held a five-point lead at halftime, but turned up the defensive pressure and limited RVA (4-4) to just nine second-half points.

David Zamudio led the Red Tail Hawks with five points, while Alex Wiggers and Cody Mendenhall both had four points and seven rebounds apiece.

HOSANNA CHRISTIAN 57, PROSPECT 47: At Prospect, Boden Perkins scored 20 points and doled out six assists for Prospect, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Andrew Hammer finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds and Theo James added 16 points and six rebounds for the Cougars (0-9), who trailed 32-17 at halftime and by 23 in the second half before making a late push.

GRANTS PASS 59, ASHLAND 43: At Ashland, senior Jayd Sollinger poured in 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for Ashland, which fell behind 21-10 after one quarter and was unable to recover.

Emily Rund knocked down four of her six 3-pointers in the first quarter for Grants Pass (6-3), which had eight treys overall in the opening frame. Rund finished with 31 points and Brooke Anderson had 14.

Ashland (5-3) got nine points from Kirsten Morgan, while Kendyl Abel added eight rebounds, six points and three blocks and Gabby Heiken had five points and six boards.

Ella Baley scored 15 points to lead the Vikings.

Days Creek, which trailed by 12 when Bischoff went out, mounted a frenzied comeback to force overtime, where the Wolves (3-3) outscored the Red Tail Hawks (4-1) 7-2 to complete the rally.

Isabell Zamora added seven points for RVA.
