Ashland senior Zoe Zapf, a class valedictorian, committed recently to play women’s tennis at Whitman College in a ceremony at the school.
Zapf helped the Grizzlies to a runner-up showing at the Class 5A girls tennis state championships in 2019 when, as a sophomore, she teamed with Jessica Hitchcock to claim the consolation championship. With Alyssa Retiz placing fourth in 5A singles, Ashland finished in second place behind state champion Corvallis.
This past season, Zapf finished third in singles at the district tournament.
Zapf is a 4.0 student who plans to study biology as a pre-med student at Whitman.
