PREP ROUNDUP: Martinez has 5 goals in Phoenix rout

PHOENIX — Victor Martinez needed just one half to record five goals for the undefeated Phoenix boys soccer team, which cruised to an 8-0 Skyline Conference victory over Klamath Union on Monday.

Martinez tallied three goals in the first eight minutes of the second half. He scored in the 43rd, 46th, 48th, 62nd and 79th minutes for the Pirates (6-0, 2-0 Skyline), who totaled seven goals in the second half.

Martinez also set up his brother Ethan Martinez for a goal in the 69th minute.

The Pirates played many of their young players to start the game. Jacob Moody broke the ice for Phoenix in the 17th minute on a setup from Bryan Ramos. Jacob’s brother, Jaden Moody, blasted in a 45-yard goal in the final 30 seconds of the contest.

Goalkeeper Tucker Speaks picked up a pair of saves for Phoenix.

The Pelicans dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in Skyline play.

ROGUE VALLEY ADVENTIST 8, PACIFIC 0: At Langlois, Alex Wigger stole the show with five goals — four in the first half — as Rogue Valley Adventist picked up the mercy-rule victory.

Wigger scored in the first, 30th, 38th, 40th and 69th minutes, and set up Daven Wilson’s score in the 57th minute before Wilson repaid the favor for Wigger’s final goal.

The Red Tail Hawks (2-0) also picked up a goal and an assist from Bryce Perry, and David Zamudio tallied in the 33rd minute.

Josh Nunn and Cody Mendenhall were defensive keys for RVA, and goalkeeper Aaron Wilson made four saves.

Girls Soccer

KLAMATH UNION 3, PHOENIX 1: At Klamath Falls, Phoenix started a little flat and Klamath Union took advantage with an early goal en route to a Skyline Conference win.

Maddy Mayer scored for Phoenix (2-3, 0-2 Skyline) in the final 10 minutes of the contest.

The Pirates allowed a goal in the second minute and didn’t allow another KU score until the 58th minute before the Pelicans capped the scoring in the 65th minute.

Center midfielder Morgan James played physical and distributed the ball well while center back Ruby Rector helped direct Phoenix’s backline.


ST. MARY’S 3, BROOKINGS-HARBOR 1: St. Mary’s junior Kelsey Dunn had 16 kills and eight blocks while senior Lainey Stranberg added eight kills in a 25-21, 26-24, 17-25, 25-19 home victory.

Maddie Ward chipped in with five kills and Albie Borovansky had 17 digs for the Crusaders (7-6, 3-1 FWL), while Emma Johnston joined Kaitlyn Hansen with 12 digs apiece. Hansen also had 25 assists.

ROGUE VALLEY ADVENTIST 3, ELKTON 0: Rogue Valley Adventist setter Olivia Barber helped the offense flow with 19 assists and seven aces while outside hitter Emma Bischoff supplied 15 kills as the host Red Tail Hawks won their seventh straight contest, 25-16, 25-13, 25-9.

Rogue Valley Adventist (7-1) also picked up eight kills from Michaela Porter and seven digs from Isabell Zamora.

The loss bumped Elkton to 3-7 overall.
