GIRLS BASKETBALL: Raines leads North over Del Norte

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. — North Medford freshman Caileigh Raines recorded 14 points, 13 rebounds and five blocked shots to lead the Black Tornado to a 52-29 girls basketball win over Del Norte on Tuesday night.

Point guard Ali Stevens added 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and pulled down five rebounds for North (2-3), which outscored Del Norte (4-5) 15-6 in the third quarter to take a 38-23 lead.

Kira Pyka had three rebounds and put in a strong performance defensively against Del Norte’s top scorer, Anyessa Bettega. Bettega had 17 points in the Warriors’ win over Grants Pass last week but finished with just two points Tuesday.

CRATER 62, NORTH EUGENE 20: At Eugene, Crater’s full-court pressure was a nightmare for North Eugene, particularly in the second quarter where Comets pulled away to claim their Midwestern League debut.

The Comets (6-1, 1-0 MWL) came away with 25 steals, many of those coming in the second quarter where Crater outscored the Highlanders (2-3, 0-1) 25-3, leading to a 41-7 halftime advantage.

Addison Dippel dropped in 13 points while McKenzie Hirsch recorded nine points, six rebounds, eight steals and a pair of assists.

Crater received eight points and seven steals from Sage Winslow and nine points from Abigail Winslow, while Alexa Gugliotta added five boards and three steals.

WILLAMETTE 73, ASHLAND 20: At Eugene, Ashland junior Abby Lambert scored nine points but Willamette was able to use an overwhelming 31-2 advantage in the first quarter to secure the Midwestern League win.

Gabby Heiken added five points for the Grizzlies (0-4, 0-1 MWL), who trailed the Wolverines (3-0, 1-0) 50-4 at halftime.

ETNA 61, PHOENIX 38: At Etna, Calif., a shorthanded Phoenix squad saw things unravel quickly in the first half as the Pirates suffered a nonleague loss to Etna.

Playing without injured forward Morgan James for a second straight game, Phoenix (3-4) trailed 29-15 at the half.

Phoenix sophomore point guard Anabell Delgado had a game-high 19 points, while junior forward Kynna Nolan had 14 points and six rebounds.

Phoenix junior guard Kyla Potratz finished with nine rebounds.

Bailey Branson scored 12 points to lead Etna (5-4).

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 43, NEW HOPE CHRISTIAN 24: At Grants Pass, Cascade Christian freshman Jordynn Jones recorded her fourth double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Challengers over Class 1A New Hope Christian.

Freshman Julia Brehm scored 10 points for Cascade Christian (2-3) and sophomore Timnah Roberson added eight points and a career-high eight steals.

Freshman Ava Barnett led New Hope Christian (2-3) with 15 points.

ROGUE VALLEY ADVENTIST 56, ILLINOIS VALLEY 24: At Cave Junction, Rogue Valley Adventist shook off the rust from a 10-day layoff to win going away thanks to a steady night from its junior leaders.

Michaela Porter shot 50% from the field and finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Red Tail Hawks (3-0), while Emma Bischoff supplied a dominant effort in the paint with 18 points and 20 rebounds.

Also for RVA, Isabell Zamora had eight assists and Baelian McNaught scored eight points against Illinois Valley (0-7).
