GIRLS BASKETBALL: South kicks into gear, tops GP

The duo of junior guard Donovyn Hunter and senior forward Sierra Logue combined for 43 points to led the No. 3-ranked South Medford girls basketball team to a 63-29 win over Grants Pass on Tuesday night at the Panthers’ gym.

Hunter finished with 24 points to lead the Panthers (10-2, 2-0 SWC), who were ahead 35-19 going into halftime. Logue had a big night on both ends of the court, recording 19 points and 11 rebounds while adding four blocks, three steals and five assists.

South’s Kendall Fealey added eight points, while Sara Schmerbach chipped in six rebounds and Lottie Dillard pulled down four rebounds.

Brooke Anderson scored 14 points for Grants Pass (7-6, 1-2), and Paige Pastrell added eight points.

CRATER 71, EAGLE POINT 29: At Eagle Point, No. 6-ranked Crater got back on track after suffering a pair of Midwestern League losses with a wire-to-wire win over Eagle Point.

Senior McKenzie Hirsch scored a game-high 18 points, while freshman Sage Winslow had a double-double with 16 points and a career-high 12 steals for Crater (13-4, 6-2 MWL), which closed the first half on a 33-5 run after Eagle Point (3-9, 0-5) had cut the deficit to 11-7 midway through the first quarter to lead 44-12 at the half.

Crater’s Kayleigh Gugliotta, a senior, had five assists, while younger sister Alexa Gugliotta pulled down five rebounds and added two steals.

Junior Morgan Dole scored nine of Eagle Point’s 11 first-quarter points. She finished with a team-high 12 points.

Eagle Point senior Kylie Balero chipped in eight points.
