Saturen leads Grizz girls to victory on the slopes

ASHLAND — Mira Saturen’s first- and second-place finishes over the weekend helped the Ashland girls ski team sweep the giant slalom and slalom events to win the second weekend of racing in Southern Oregon Ski Education Foundation’s Alpine Race League on Saturday and Sunday at Mt. Ashland.

For the boys, Crater’s Ivar Hokanson won the giant slalom and took second place in the slalom while Max Galli led Grants Pass to a team win in both events.

In the giant slalom, Saturen edged North Medford’s Hadley Dunlevy with a time of 1 minute and 6.9 seconds Satuday. The runner-up Dunlevy clocked 1:07.9 but responded Sunday by capturing the win in the slalom with at time of 1:30.5 over second-place Saturen (1:33.1).

Ashland also used a couple of third-place finishes from Kariana Austbo to navigate Ashland to victory. She timed 1:12.1 in the giant slalom and 1:36.9 in the slalom.

Hokanson captured the win in the giant slalom (1:07.5) and settled for second in the slalom (1:43.6) behind the winner Nathan Lemley (1:43.3) from St. Mary’s.

Galli took second in the giant slalom (1:07.8) and fifth in the slalom (1:44.3). South Medford took second as a team behind Grants Pass in each event as Asa Maddox and Koen Jordan led the way with third-place finishes in the giant slalom (1:10.3) and slalom (1:43.7), respectively.
