Rogue Valley wrestling trio advance to national tourney

Three Southern Oregon prep wrestlers will represent their home state at the 2022 U.S. Marine Corps Junior & 16U National Championships after placing at the Northwest Regional Championships this past Saturday in Centralia, Washington.

Crater’s Sienna Caruso placed third in the high school freestyle girls division at 106 pounds, while Ashland’s Lindson Turner was a third-place finisher in the 16U 132-pound boys bracket and South Medford’s Caleb Dalke was fourth in the 16U 182-pound boys bracket.

Caruso made it to the semifinal round before falling to the eventual champion, Azalea Fetters from Washington. She then went into the consolation bracket, recording a pin and a 16-6 decision to wrap up third place.

Turner won his first matchups before, like Caruso, falling in the semifinals. The Ashland freshman recorded wins via pin and a 13-6 decision to finish third.

Dalke fell in his opening bout, but won his next two to make it to the consolation final. He lost his final matchup to finish fourth.

The 2022 U.S. Marine Corps Junior & 16U National Championships will take place July 15-22 in Fargo, North Dakota.
