PREP SOFTBALL: Eagles sweep Millers, extend win streak

EAGLE POINT — Against a struggling Springfield squad, Eagle Point simply took care of business Friday afternoon.

Three Eagle Point pitchers combined to limit Springfield to just two hits total and sophomore Jocelyn Hanan drove in six runs as the seventh-ranked Eagles claimed a pair of 15-0 wins in three innings over the Millers to sweep the Midwestern League doubleheader.

Hanan drove in three runs in each end of the twin bill and went 3-for-3 in Game 2 for the Eagles (12-5, 6-2 MWL), who have won six straight games with Friday’s sweep.

Eagle Point, which had 10 hits in both games of the doubleheader, has recorded double-digit run totals in each one of its last five games.

EP senior catcher Emilee Nielsen combined to go 5-for-5 with five RBIs and five runs scored, while senior Jovianna Marshall had a pair of two-hit games and had two RBIs and scored two runs in Game 2.

Hailey Waldon, a junior, was 2-for-3 with a double, triple, three RBIs and scored three runs in Game 1, while Sydney Boren drove in three and scored two runs, and Faith Akers had a pair of RBIs in Game 2.

Boren and Kyra Smith each picked up wins in the circle. Boren threw three shutout innings in the opener, allowing one hit and striking out three.

Springfield fell to 0-10 overall and 0-6 in the MWL.
