PREP ROUNDUP: Boutwell medalist; South places 2nd
ROSEBURG — Blake Boutwell earned medalist honors for the South Medford boys golf team which secured second place in the Southwest Conference tournament that was shortened to nine holes due to inclement weather on Monday at Roseburg Country Club.
Boutwell carded a 2-over-par 38 to help South Medford score a 177 as a team, just three strokes off the pace of first-place Sheldon.
The Panthers also picked up a 44 from Henry Williams and a 45 from Max Woolf.
Grants Pass took third (178) with Rigby Lathen registering a 42 and Clayton Pilcher going for a 44.
North Medford finished in fourth (192) led by Trey Neff’s 42.

KLAMATH UNION 11-7, PHOENIX 1-8: Phoenix was able to hold off Klamath Union in Game 2 and salvage a Skyline Conference split in the doubleheader at Lithia & Driveway Fields.
With the Pirates (4-7, 2-1 Skyline) ahead 8-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Phoenix relief pitcher Kaden Sousa allowed an unearned run but preserved the win by getting two of the final three outs via strikeout.
Jackson Shilts finished 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, two runs and was walked twice. He came up with a two-out double in the third inning that kept the frame alive and resulted in two Pirate runs after Julius Bolstad tripled home Shilts and Chance Sherrell capped the inning by driving home Bolstad with a single.
Sousa and Cory Cunningham both finished 2-for-4.
In Game 1, the Pirates only came up with two hits in the game and the Pelicans (3-9, 1-2) won in five innings by virtue of the 10-run mercy rule.

PHOENIX 22-17, KLAMATH UNION 6-5: Jayden Vos capped a monster afternoon with seven RBIs in Game 2 in which Phoenix completed a doubleheader sweep of Skyline Conference foe Klamath Union at Lithia & Driveway Fields.
Vos recorded a three-run inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning and finished 3-for-4 with a triple.
Raelyssa Goff also had a big Game 2 for the Pirates (5-7, 3-0 Skyline), going 2-for-2 with five RBIs and was walked three times. Goff also spelled starting pitcher Kendall Heywood to capture the win and allow one earned run on one hit and two walks to go with six strikeouts over four innings.
The Pirates’ Addison Brite went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs while Carson Gallegos added a two-run double.
In the opener, Phoenix took over early with nine runs in each of the first two innings.
Goff finished 2-for-2 with five RBIs, Morgan James went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Brite went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs while Vos came up 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
The losses dropped the Pelicans to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in Skyline play.
