PREP ROUNDUP: Crater runs past Ashland, EP

ASHLAND — Sage Winslow won in three events for the Crater girls track team while the Crater boys had four competitors take first place in two events apiece as the Comets swept the three-team Midwestern League meet with Ashland and Eagle Point at Ashland High School on Tuesday.

Winslow claimed individual victories in the 200 meters, 400 meters and was the final leg of the winning 4x100 relay team. She clocked 27.77 seconds in the 200, 1 minute, 2.09 seconds in the 400 and 53.59 in the 4x100 relay alongside teammates Cambrea Goodwin, Addison Dippel and Kate Harnois.

Harnois also won the 300 hurdles with a time of 52.42.

On the boys side, Crater’s Carson Le Bel highlighted the meet by clearing 6 feet, 2 inches to win the high jump and also went 13-6 to come away with first in the pole vault

Ryder Hvall finished the 110 hurdles in 18.61 and the 300 hurdles in 45.08 as another double winner for the Comets, while Aidan Chenoweth won the 400 (53.08) and was the third leg of the winning 4x400 relay team (3:49.84) which included Nicholas Kube, Gabriel Grant and Aiden Huggins. Grant also captured the long jump (19-8).

Ashland’s Caden Negra won the 200 (23.52) and was the second leg of the winning 4x100 relay team (45.0) along with Vincent Senn, Gavin White and Cole Beneventi.

Eagle Point’s Emma Stanek picked up wins in the 100 (13.7) and the 4x400 relay (4:28.19) along with Reagan Hussey, Morgan Dole and Leslie Barajas.

NORTH THROWERS SHINE: North Medford senior Jackie Aukusitino recorded one of the top throws in school history in the shot put but it was the Grants Pass boys and girls that rolled to wins over the Black Tornado at Bowerman Field.

Aukusitino’s throw of 40 feet, 4.5 inches put her third all time in the North Medford history books.

Another North thrower, junior David Fuiava, also moved into the top 10 in school history in the discus. Fuiava’s throw of 151-9 placed him ninth all time.

North’s Trent Wayman picked up an individual win in the boys 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 7.96 seconds as well as being part of the Tornado’s victorious 4x400 relay team. Isaiah Chavez (200) and Logan Huffman (1,500) also had individual victories for the Tornado.

North freshman Olivia Boger won the girls 400 with a personal-best time of 1:03.38, while Audrey Yechout (triple jump) and Reese Meager (3,000) also won for the Tornado.

Boys Tennis

SOUTH MEDFORD 5, GRANTS PASS 3: After falling short in their opening set, South Medford’s top doubles team of Stephen Wisnovsky and Elijah Spencer rallied with a third-set tiebreaker win to help the Panthers get the edge on Grants Pass at South Medford High School.

Wisnovsky and Spencer earned a 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 triumph over Tucker Neville and Preston Smith of Grants Pass. The Panthers’ No. 4 doubles team of Andrew Oppermann and Hayden Allen also needed a third set to upend Evan Riggs and McKay Pratt.

Grants Pass captured a win in No. 1 singles when Nic Rust defeated South Medford’s Josue Maidana, 6-2, 6-4. The Panthers’ Andrean Gurov responded with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles over Parker Pastrell.

ROSEBURG 5, NORTH MEDFORD 3: Molly Milligan rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Roseburg’s Sarah Bryan in the No. 1 singles match but the Indians swept in doubles en route to a Southwest Conference win at North Medford High School.

The Black Tornado also picked up wins from Hadley Dunlevy and Shelly Chung in second- and third-seeded singles, respectively. Dunlevy gave up only two games to Kayla Tyler, while Chung topped Emma Kahler, 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 10-8.

Lily Preszler topped Phoenix’s Agatha Hosking at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2, to help power the Challengers’ effort.

BANDON INVITATIONAL: At McKenzie Bridge, Brock Drury finished third with an 81, six strokes off the pace set by Lucas Vanderlip of Brookings-Harbor, to help St. Mary’s earn the team title under rainy conditions Monday at Tokatee Golf Club.

Tiger Kao and Owen Bernard tied for fourth at 85 to help lead the Crusaders, who totaled 340 to beat host Bandon by 15 strokes.

Girls Golf

ALL-SWC: Grants Pass wrapped up the Southwest Conference team title by taking first in the final counting match of the spring and North Medford finished third in the tournament at Centennial Golf Club on Monday.

Sheldon’s Corinne Lillywhite earned medalist honors with a 72 for the runner-up Irish and finished as the individual SWC champion ahead of Brooke Alderson of Grants Pass, who carded a 79 on Monday.

Claire Spence finished with a 106 to lead South Medford, while Avery Clark had a 109 and Hailie Kelton posted a 114 to pace North Medford.

Spence wound up ninth in the season standings and Kelton tied for 10th.

BANDON INVITATIONAL: At McKenzie Bridge, St. Mary’s standout Riley Hammericksen took home medalist honors after Monday’s tournament at Tokatee Golf Club was limited to a nine-hole event due to wet and cold conditions.

Hammericksen’s total of 39 was good enough to edge Esha Reddy of Marist by one stroke. Marist won the girls title with all four of its scorers ranging from 40-47 through nine holes.

Brigitte O’Connell finished fifth for the Crusaders with a 46.
