PREP ROUNDUP: Moran, St. Mary’s in second at districts
BANDON — With freshman Josh Moran leading the charge, all four competitors for the St. Mary’s boys golf team posted scores in the top 10 as the Crusaders moved into second place after Day 1 of the Class 3A District 4 Championships at Bandon Crossings Golf Club on Monday.
Moran carded a 6-over-par 78, tying with Josh Serna and Lucas Vanderlip of Brookings-Harbor. The Crusaders also received strong scores from junior Brock Drury with a 79 — good for sixth place individually — while Owen Bernard took seventh with an 80 and Tiger Kao eighth with an 81. Although his score did not count toward the team’s, Elliot Zimmer landed in a three-way tie for 10th place in the 36-player field with an 82.
The Crusaders shot a 318 as a team, just three strokes off the pace of first-place Bandon’s 315 heading into the final round of the two-day event which continues with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Gavin Snow tied for 10th with an 82 to help Rogue River slide into fifth place with a 470.
Although far from the pace of the top two teams, Brookings-Harbor stands in third with a 387.
Bandon’s Peyton Simonds was the Day 1 leader with a 74.
