Spartans capture seventh straight, sweep road series
WHITEFISH, Mont. — The Southern Oregon Spartans hockey team downed the Whitefish Wolverines, 2-1, to sweep the three-match series and win its seventh straight during Western States Hockey League action on Sunday.
The Spartans (8-1) took a 2-0 lead on an unassisted power play goal by Denis Creighton at the 6:35 mark in the first period and a Mackenzie Wood goal using assists from Luke Fraser and Colin Elder a few minutes later.
Aleksei Garin scored for Whitefish in the second period, but the Wolverines (2-7) couldn’t come up with the equalizer.
Goalkeeper Tymen Edelkoort III made 18 saves.
