Spartans’ season comes to end

MISSOULA, Mont. — A strong season by the Southern Oregon Spartans came to an end with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Missoula Maulers during Game 3 of their Western States Hockey League divisional semifinals on Sunday.

Sawyer Jacobson netted the game-winner at the 6:10 mark of the OT session.

Doug Gutierrez and Billy Saxton scored goals for the Spartans, who were outshot, 44-35.

Goalkeeper Reed Kinsey made 41 saves for Southern Oregon, which finished the regular season 34-12 and saw Mackenzie Woods lead the league in points.

Missoula will face Idaho in the divisional finals.
