Spartans dispatch Totems

The Southern Oregon Spartans hockey team got off to a good start in the first of a two-game series with the Seattle Totems Friday.

Yannek Kumli tallied two goals and a pair of assists for the Spartans, who scored four goals in the third period to pull away for a 6-3 victory at The RRRink.

The Spartans (5-24 Western States Hockey League), who will go for their first sweep of the season tonight, received a goal each from Joel Holmberg, Mason Cooper, Thomas Wangler and Keegan Randell. Holmberg doled out three assists and Cooper added two.

Goalie Austin Toussaint made 21 saves for the Spartans, who won a series-opening match for just the second time this season.

The Totems dropped to 7-16.
