Delta Center slow to develop

Every time I pass Lava Lanes and the new Sportsman's Warehouse located on Crater Lake Highway, I glance towards the airport and see nothing but empty space — Well, besides the small car lots. I have heard some of the land is saved for a Best Buy, but am curious if this is just a rumor. Is this true? And are there any larger franchises (i.e. Krispy Kreme, an Apple Store, Trader Joe's, etc.) known to be coming to the valley anytime soon?

Since You Asked's World Headquarters issued forth its Town Crier to also wonder loudly why the Delta Center development is so slow in coming along. However, after receiving no response and having the neighbors tell the crier to "pipe down," we made a few phone calls instead. We've been assured that sometime in the next few weeks construction will begin on a retail complex with four more buildings going up soon and two more after that.

Whether it has more to do with the national economy causing corporate jitters or the oft-cited bureaucratic obstacles isn't clear. There also are other small and large commercial developments going up in the area, including the Northgate development.

Among possible tenants at Delta Center at Crater Lake Highway and Delta Waters Road are Starbucks; Verizon Wireless; Sonic Drive-In; and Panda Express, a casual fast-food style Chinese restaurant.

Best Buy was originally penciled into the retail site, but pulled out and will likely appear elsewhere. As for Trader Joe's, don't get us started.
