County RV park is open for business

I remember you had a story not too long ago about the county getting ready to open its RV park at the fairgrounds. When is that going to happen?

— Melanie, Medford

It already has happened, Melanie. The county's park, called the Southern Oregon RV Park, opened on July 1 and is taking reservations.

The RV park is on Penninger Road at Exit 33 off Interstate 5, between the county Expo's buildings and two ponds to the north. It has 92 spots available, all with water, electricity and sewer hookups.

Here's a description from the county park's website: All sites are paved with basic sites measuring 60 feet in length and 12 feet wide, while premium sites are 75 feet in length and 15 feet wide. Each site has a picnic table on a concrete pad and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows. The park has three centrally located restroom buildings with showers, as well as an additional restroom in the day-use area of the park.

A fenced, off-leash dog area should be open by Aug. 1, and a park headquarters building is scheduled to be completed in the fall. The headquarters building also can be rented by groups in need of a meeting space. Future plans for the park include group picnic shelters and accessible fishing docks.
