Gray skies a mix of smoke, clouds
Where's all the smoke coming from in the Medford area? I could hardly see Mount Ashland from my house this morning.

We received a couple calls from folks wondering about the gray skies in our area, so we reached out to people who know our skies best, the fine folks at the National Weather Service in Medford.
What we were seeing Tuesday was a mix of scattered mid-level and higher-level cloud cover, plus smoke from a fire still burning in the Miller Complex near Applegate Lake, according to meteorologist Mike Petrucelli. The Abney fire is burning in the national forest near the Pacific Crest Trail.
"Smoke from that (fire) has started to become more noticeable," Petrucelli said. "You're probably seeing a combination of both."
As far as the clouds, Petrucelli said they're coming from a front moving inland from the coast.
"The thicker stuff is closer to Coos Bay," Petrucelli said.
Scattered showers were expected around the area late Tuesday, with cooler showers moving into the forecast in the next day or so.
