AARP tax help is back, but make reservation first

I’m curious to know, is AARP is going to be offering tax preparation services anywhere in Medford this year? I’m always so anxious to pay taxes every year.

There are no Medford locations this year, but the AARP Foundation’s Tax Aide program is back in Southern Oregon.

There’s some changes this year for the nonprofit’s federally funded tax assistance program geared toward those with low to moderate incomes and older than 50.

In short, the price is still right, but you’ll need to schedule an appointment.

An appointment is required before meeting with an IRS-certified volunteer at The Grove in Ashland — the sole location available for in-person tax assistance within 50 miles of Medford — and an appointment is similarly necessary for the AARP’s drop-off service at the Talent library, according to the AARP Foundation website.

For those looking for a contactless option, the AARP offers tax help through phone and videoconferencing by appointment, and free tax filing software for eligible do-it-yourselfers. If those DIY types run into a problem, they can request help from a tax coach who can help through screen sharing.

To make a reservation for any AARP Tax Aide services, see taxaide.aarpfoundation.org. For more information call 1-888-227-7669.

As unpleasant as thinking about taxes can be, this isn’t the year to procrastinate. The AARP’s Tax Aide program runs until April 15, but appointments and services depend on volunteer availability, and the spread of COVID could impact services.
