Vaccine lotto winners to be known by July 9

We got fully vaccinated back in February. Are we eligible to be entered into the drawings for a vaccination prize?

How will we know who won a prize in the “Take Your Shot, Oregon” promotion?

— No name given, via phone

Judging by the volume of questions we’ve received here at Since You Asked headquarters, it’s clear that cash prizes are a surefire way to drum up interest in public health matters — but it also drums up a little confusion.

For anyone who’s been social distancing under a rock the past month, the “Take Your Shot, Oregon” campaign will offer a $1 million prize to an Oregon resident who has had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine prior to June 27. There will also be five $100,000 scholarships awarded to vaccinated Oregon juveniles older than 12, and one $10,000 winner in each of the state’s 36 counties, according to TakeYourShot.Oregon.gov.

The $1.86 million worth of prizes comes from Oregon Coronavirus Relief Act dollars, and the website states that Oregon Lottery staff is “overseeing this entire process to ensure that it is completed within the same rigorous standards as all other Oregon Lottery drawings.”

The drawing will be conducted June 28, and the state will announce winners the week of July 4, no later than July 9.

You’re entered automatically if you were vaccinated in Oregon at any time through June 27. If you’re an Oregon resident who was vaccinated in another state or through a federal location such as a VA medical center, you’re still eligible, but you’ll need to fill out an online entry form at appengine.egov.com/apps/or/take-your-shot.

Yes, they’ll be double-checking your vaccination records prior to issuing the prize. No, winners can’t be anonymous, because the prize is subject to Oregon public record laws.
