Since You Asked: No announcement yet of county winners of vaccine lottery
I'm curious if the winners of the $10,000 vaccine lotteries in the counties have been chosen. I haven't seen any news about those. Can you help? — Sally Killen
No information on the 36 winners of the county $10,000 “Take Your Shot, Oregon” COVID-19 vaccine lottery has been released yet, according to an employee of the Oregon Lottery on Sunday.
The other six winners of the vaccine lottery have been announced, however.
Chloe Zinda, a student at Oregon State University and McMinnville native, was named the one million dollar grand prize winner on July 9.
“This money is really going to be life-changing for me,” Zinda said on a YouTube interview, announcing her win. “I’m going to use it to pursue my dream as an artist. I’ll be able to open my own business and pay off my student loans and hopefully, in the future, open my own studio.”
The other five winners are middle and high school students, 12 to 17 years old, and won the $100,000 college savings plan education scholarship.
According to a press release, Among the winners was Laney Myers, 15, from Grants Pass, who is entering 10th grade. She said that she would have gotten vaccinated regardless of if there had been a lottery or not.
“I talked to my mom about the scholarship right after I got my second shot. We talked about what an amazing opportunity that would be for someone, but I never thought I would win,” she said.
“I’m incredibly grateful for our scholarship winners, and all the young Oregonians who took their shot to get vaccinated and protect themselves and their families from COVID-19,” Oregon Governor Kate Brown said.
