Raiders turn fast start into easy win
The second-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team won every match it competed in as the Raiders cruised to a 44-6 victory over Pacific University Thursday at Forest Grove.
The Raiders improved to 17-1 in duals on the season. Pacific dropped to 1-11 on the season. SOU takes part in Pacific's Boxer Open Saturday.
SOU quickly jumped out to a 14-0 lead after three matches. Jared Dalgleish scored a 11-4 decision at 125 pounds, followed by a technical fall victory by Mitchell Lofstedt at 133 and a pin by second-ranked Barry Johnson at 141.
Austin Vanderford scored a victory by fall for the Raiders at 165 and SOU won three matches by forfeit during the dual.
Pacific's lone victory came as a result of an SOU forfeit at 184.
Southern Oregon has won 13 straight over the Boxers dating back to the 1999-2000 season and will have a chance to bump that streak up to 14 when they host the Boxers at McNeal Pavilion on Feb. 14.
Ashland High won four of six matches but was done in by seven forfeits in a dual meet loss to Mazama on Thursday at Klamath Falls.
Earning victories for the Grizzlies were Cody Remington (130 pounds), Nolan Bonney (135), Jacob Scarminach (160) and Issa Shahin (171).
Remington and Shahin both won by fall — Remington pinned his opponent in 1 minute, 34 seconds, while Shahin finished his match in 3:48.
Ashland Soccer Club will hold tryouts for the U-14 and U-12 boys teams and the U-12 girls team next week at Ashland Middle School.
The U-14 boys tryouts will be held Monday and Wednesday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the upper field. Contact coach Thierry Chouard (488-3406) for more information.

Players should come to tryouts wearing soccer cleats and shinguards covered by soccer socks, and should bring weather-appropriate gear.
Practices for competitive teams will start March 2 and games begin April 4 and continue through May 17.
