Southern Oregon lacrosse team tops Coyotes

On a blustery Saturday afternoon the Southern Oregon University lacrosse team proved it was not only a good day for flying kites, but scoring goals as well.

SOU opened its home season against College of Idaho, a small private school in Caldwell, Idaho. Laurence Van Egdom "popped the cork" for SOU's offense scoring within the first two minutes of the contest.

After the close first half and slow start to the second, the flood gates opened for the Raiders, who went on to win 20-11.

"We were a little weak in our transition defense but we had a lot of crisp passing that lead to a lot of scoring," SOU head coach Mark Brown said.

In the fourth quarter Brown emptied his bench so a lot of young players were allowed their first taste of lacrosse at the college level.

Forest Brooks lead SOU with four goals and team captain Alex White added two goals along with two assists. Tyler Bauman, from Anchorage, Alaska, had three acrobatic goals and led the team with six assists,

Brown was relieved that the Raiders didn't have a letdown after beating 10th nationally ranked Western Oregon, 10-8, on Feb. 7. There was a lot of physical play from both sides that aroused the small crowd attending the home opener for SOU.
