Jackson's 20 points can't save SOU men at UVSC
Humphrey Jackson scored 20 points, but it wasn't enough as the Southern Oregon men's basketball team fell to NCAA Division I Utah Valley State College 77-50 Monday in Orem, Utah.
Utah Valley improved to 6-5 on the season. Southern Oregon dropped to 8-6 overall.
Corey Claitt finished with 18 points, one of five Wolverines in double-digits.
Jackson, who hit 8 of 11 shots, was the only Raider to hit double-digits. Austin Wolfer had nine points and a team-high six rebounds.
Utah Valley led 35-23, but shot 51 percent in the second half to put the Raiders away.
Southern Oregon returns to action Dec. 30 when it hosts Northwest Christian at McNeal Pavilion.
Southern Oregon women's basketball head coach Lynn Kennedy announced Monday the signing of Kiara Moore to play for the Raiders in 2010-11.
Moore, a 6-2 forward, plays for Tolleson Union High School in Gilbert, Ariz.
"Kiara is very athletic post that can run the floor and will fit perfectly into our style of play," Kennedy said. "She also changes things on defense with her ability to block shots."
Moore averages eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocks for Tolleson Union and has led the team to a 10-1 start. Moore helped the squad to a state championship last year and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the recent Highland Thanksgiving Tournament. She also earned All-Tournament honors during the AAU season at Oregon City's End of the Trail Tournament.
