Raiders claw back in second half to beat Northwest Christian
SPRINGFIELD — The Southern Oregon University soccer team picked a good spot for its first comeback win Thursday night, toppling Northwest Christian 2-1 and jumping to 2-1 in the Cascade Conference at Kelly Field.
Kelsey Randall knocked in the tying shot in the 50th minute, tapping in Presley Lambert's header, and Lambert registered the game-winner in the 64th on a transition play for the Raiders (3-7 overall).
SOU remained unscathed (8-0-1) in the all-time series with the Beacons, who fell to 4-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Keeper Devon Walker only needed one save as SOU allowed the Beacons to launch just two shots. Their second, off the foot Mishayla Bertelsen via Michelle Giron's through-pass, gave NCU a 1-0 edge 74 seconds before halftime.
The Raiders got off 11 shots, placed four on goal, and had five corners to NCU's zero.
After getting on the board with Randall's second goal in the last three games, Lambert's third goal of the season got by on a five-yard strike after passes from De Jesse and Randall, who were both credited with assists.
SOU has won four of its last five CCC road contests dating back to last season.
The Raiders will be at Corban for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday. The Warriors played to a scoreless draw Thursday against Oregon Tech, moving to 5-5-2 and 0-2-1.
