Raiders have their way with depleted Simpson, score 12 goals in rout

Megan Kapp recorded Southern Oregon's first hat trick in two years and the Raiders scored nine goals in the second half en route to a 12-0 nonleague win over Simpson on Wednesday at Raider Stadium.

Kapp, a junior transfer, scored all of her goals in the second half, when SOU (1-1-1) connected six times in a wild 13-minute span. It was SOU's first hat trick since Sydney Paulsen accomplished the feat on Aug. 21, 2013.

Also for the Raiders, who host another nonleague game against Cascade Conference rival Oregon Tech today, Allyson Ward scored twice, Makena Totushek had one goal and one assist and three other players — Kylie Durant, Avery Dutton and Presley Lambert — contributed one goal and one assist.

Southern Oregon, which out-shot Simpson (0-2) 43-1, began its onslaught when Ward cashed in on a penalty kick exactly 26 minutes into the game. Ward came through again 12 minutes later unassisted from 20 yards out. Maddy Spangler scored off an assist by Makena Totushek with three seconds left in the first half to give the Raiders a 3-0 lead.

The Raiders poured it on in the second half against the shorthanded Storm, which did not have a substitute. Lambert's unassisted goal which capped a long dribble drive only six seconds into the second half, was only the beginning. Kapp notched her first off an assist by Dutton less than a minute later, and seven minutes later Dutton booted home a cross from Lisa Elledge. That kicked off a four goals in five minute outburst.

The Raiders finished with 26 shots on goal and 15 corner kicks. It was the second-largest scoring binge in team history and the most in 12 years.
