Carroll shuts out SOU

Carroll College made the most of its opportunities to beat Southern Oregon 2-0 in the semifinals of the Cascade Conference women's soccer tournament Thursday at Willamalane Park in Springfield.

The top-seeded Fighting Saints were outshot by the fifth-seeded Raiders 10-4, including 5-2 on goal, but took an early lead on a goal by Cassidy Hammons and put the game away late when Brittany Giroloami added an insurance goal.

Hammons scored in the ninth minute and Giroloami in the 83rd. Both were unassisted.

Southern Oregon finishes its season 8-9-3 overall.

Makena Totushek fired off three shots on goal and Lauren Aldana and Allyson Ward had one apiece for the Raiders, who also had four corner kicks to Carroll's zero.

Carroll (14-5-1) advances to today's CCC championship game.
