Seven Raiders place in top three

Seven Southern Oregon University Raiders placed in the top three, including tournament champion Alejandra Rodriguez, in Pacific University's Boxer Open women's wrestling tourney Sunday in Forest Grove.

Rodriguez defeated Simon Fraser's Nicole Depa by decision, 4-2, to claim the 130-pound title, her second tourney championship in three weeks following her victorious run in the Menlo Open. She had a technical fall victory and a pin in Forest Grove.

Southern Oregon 136-pounder Sydney Norvell, an Ashland High alum, and 155/170-pounder Jasmine Ivy had runner-up performances in the Boxer Open. Norvell had back-to-back dominant victories before getting pinned by Simon Fraser's Francesca Giorgio in the championship match. Ivy pinned her first-round opponent and won a 3-0 decision over Southwestern Oregon's Bree Tate-Johnson before Southwestern Oregon's Janelle Fuanatu pinned Ivy at the 5-minute park of the championship match.

SOU's Jessica DeHart (101/109), Madelynn McIlwain (116), Chloe Spencer (136) and Latiana Tauaese (191) each placed third.

DeHart beat Burnaby Mountain Wrestling Club's Ciara McCrae 10-0 in the third-place match.

The Raiders next face Warner Pacific on Feb. 6.
