SOU men, women drop in NAIA top 25 polls
The Southern Oregon University men's basketball team tumbled six pots to No. 18 and the SOU women fell three spots to No. 11 in the NAIA Division II basketball polls, released Tuesday.
The Raider men dropped in the coaches' poll after dropping a road tilt at unranked Eastern Oregon on Saturday, a day after the Raiders beat College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho. Saturday's setback dropped the SOU men to 15-5 overall and 8-2 in the Cascade Conference, second place behind 10th-ranked Northwest Christian. The Beacons jumped seven spots in the poll.
The SOU women suffered their first loss of the season in La Grande to fall to 16-1 overall and 9-1 in the Cascade Conference.
Both Raider basketball teams play six of their next eight games at home - this season, that's Ashland High's Mountain Avenue Gym. The Raiders host Northwest (Wash.) on Saturday, with the women's game slated for a 5:30 p.m. start and the men 7:30. SOU hosts Evergreen State (Wash.) on Sunday, at 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men).
Ashland High has named Charlie Hall the next Grizzly head baseball coach.
Hall, Ashland's longtime head football coach and assistant baseball coach, takes over for Mike Kenask.
Hall's son and former Ashland High all-star shortstop Nick Hall will be an assistant coach, along with former AHS head baseball and softball coach Don Senestraro and former Grizzly all-star infielder Eric Carlson.
The Grizzlies open their 2016 season March 16 at home against North Valley.
