Claussen named CCC player of the week

Southern Oregon senior point guard Ashley Claussen on Monday was named the Cascade Conference Red Lion women's basketball player of the week after leading the Raiders to two lopsided home wins.

Claussen hit 9 of 15 3-pointers in victories over Northwest on Saturday and Evergreen State on Sunday. Against Evergreen State, Claussen had 26 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Claussen is averaging 20.1 points, 3.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds for the 11th-ranked Raiders (18-1, 11-1 CCC), who lead the Cascade Conference.

Red Zone Golf Tourney

For the fifth year in a row Ashland's RedZone Sports Bar N' Grill will be the title sponsor of the Southern Oregon University football team's annual golf tournament fundraiser.

The Red Zone Golf Tournament, which hauled in a record $50,000 for the Raiders last year, will be held April 30 at Eagle Point Golf Course.

RedZone is owned by SOU alum Austin Loreman.

"I again applaud Austin's dedication not only to the football program, but to all the programs here at SOU," SOU athletic director Matt Sayre said. "He's always one of the first people to step up and ask what he can do for us. The growth of this tournament is a result of people like him stepping up to the plate."

The tournament is open to the first 36 fivesomes to register and costs $140 per individual from now until April 23. The cost increases to $160 per individual during the week of the tournament.
