LOCAL ROUNDUP: SOU keeper Selby honored again
For the second time this month, Southern Oregon University goalkeeper Jessie Selby was voted the Cascade Conference Red Lion Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
The sophomore from Vancouver, Wash., logged her third consecutive shutout in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Oregon Tech, collecting seven saves in the 21st-ranked Raiders’ CCC opener. She made three of those in overtime of the 110-minute contest.
Selby has made 31 saves since allowing her only goal in four appearances. She’s totaled 28 of those over her last three starts and her 0.24 goals-allowed average is the fifth-best in the NAIA.
SOU (3-2-1 overall, 0-0-1 CCC) will be at Raider Stadium for the first time this week, hosting Carroll (Mont.) at 1 p.m. Friday and Providence (Mont.) at 10 am. Sunday in CCC action.
ASHLAND 4, ST. MARY’S 0: At Ashland, senior Mya Holzshu scored two goals for Ashland, which tallied twice in the first five minutes to put St. Mary’s on its heels in nonconference action at North Mountain Park.
Ashland sophomore Luna Wilhelm and senior Mary Wilson also scored for the Grizzlies (4-1-2), who had been struggling to get off to quality starts in matches but made a concerted effort to do so against the Crusaders.
Sophomore goalkeeper Zadi Burke came up with four saves to earn the shutout against St. Mary’s (2-3).
ASHLAND 3, EAGLE POINT 0: At Eagle Point, Ashland improved to 4-2 in the Midwestern League (5-4 overall) with a 25-5, 25-12, 25 19 conference win over Eagle Point.
Eagle Point dropped to 1-8 on the season.
The Eagles came out flat on their home court and Ashland took full advantage. For Eagle Point, senior Sara Angel had 3 kills on the offensive end and Yarixa Martinez had 4 digs defensively.
