CROSS COUNTRY: Raider men No. 5, women No. 9 entering postseason

Southern Oregon University’s cross country teams both moved up in the NAIA Top 25 polls released Thursday by the national office — the men to No. 5 and the women to No. 9 entering the postseason next week.

The Raider men got a three-spot boost and the women moved up two after both teams finished second last week among top-25 heavy fields at William Jessup’s Warrior Invitational.

College of Idaho — still ranked second on the men’s side and third on the women’s — won both races at William Jessup and will be the favorites at the Cascade Conference Championships, which are set for Nov. 8 in Cottage Grove. The men’s 8,000-meter race will begin at 10 a.m. and the women’s 5K at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Springview Park.

Two other CCC men’s teams are ranked: No. 17 Oregon Tech and No. 23 Eastern Oregon.

The CCC women are also represented by No. 12 Eastern Oregon and No. 18 Oregon Tech, while Northwest Christian and Northwest (Wash.) are receiving votes.
