Fingers flying on the frets

Fingerstyle guitarist Chris Proctor and blues guitarist/ songwriter David Jacobs-Strain will perform together at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 27, at the Unitarian Center, 4th and C St., Ashland.

Only 20, Jacobs-Strain has already built an impressive list of music accomplishments, including opening for the Robert Cray Band at the Britt Festival last June.

Jacobs-Strain began performing when he was 12 years old at the Oregon Country Fair, which began many years of festival performances around the world. In addition, Jacobs-Strain has been an instructor at the Port Townsend Country Blues Workshop since 1999.

In 2002, the Canadian NorthernBlues Music released his fourth CD "Stuck On The Way Back."

"[Jacobs-Strain] has the mature touch and thoughtful songwriting usually associated with a much older artist. So forget about his age and concentrate on the delights of his fourth album, Stuck On The Way Back...it's clear that Jacobs-Strain has the potential to be one of traditional acoustic blues' brightest lights. If he's brilliant now, image what he'll be like at 99," said Genevieve Williams in Blues Revue.

With Jacob-Strain will be reknowned guitarist, Chris Proctor. Proctor's latest CD The Chris Proctor Collection features 16 pieces from earlier releases. Each piece was re-recorded and re-interpreted. They feature Proctor's altered tunings and original techniques performed on six different Taylor guitars.

"No fancy production tricks, just pure fingerpicking," said OP Journal. "His command of the strings is breathtaking. His playing has an exactness, so that we never miss the effect of any single note, yet he never loses sight of the freedom of letting his guitar ramble in acoustic flights of humor and joy."
