Artattack offers acting classes from local pros
Two professional actors will participate in Artattack — Theatre Ensemble's educational programs this summer.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival actor G. Valmont Thomas will — instruct two acting workshops, and film and stage performer Jimmy Garcia — will instruct a five-week course that will focus on the Meisner Technique — of acting.

Thomas, whose stage credits include countless roles in — OSF productions, holds a bachelor's in theater arts from Western Washington — University and a master's from Penn State University.

His three-day workshop, "Auditioning with Shakespeare," — will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 25 and 26, — and from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28.

This workshop is designed to help actors get the most — out of their monologues, refine their characters and enhance personal — performance.

Thomas will also hold a two-day question-and-answer session, — "Advice to the Players," from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, and Thursday, — Sept. 2.

These sessions will address the challenges of being a — stage actor in a film environment, and discussions will include tips on — working in the industry.

A five-week course that will focus on the Meisner Technique — of acting will begin Aug. 28. Sessions will held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 — p.m. on Saturdays.

Garcia has taught the Meisner Technique to his students — for many years, and his professional appearances include roles at OSF, — Portland Center Stage and the Oregon Cabaret Theatre. Garcia also has — a number of film and television roles for his credits.

The Meisner technique of acting is a style that uses instinctive — human exchange as the guiding principle, rather than intellectual action, — to enable actors to create real behavior within the imaginary circumstances — of theater and film.
