Phantom of the Opera
Feature, Saturday, 12 noon
World-class theatre organist Dennis James will perform the original score of Phantom of the Opera live, accompanying a fully restored version of the 1925 landmark silent film. James recently performed the score of Phantom with the prestigious Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The original film version of the renowned classic, starring Lon Chaney as the Phantom, was one of the first horror films ever created and is still regarded as the grandfather of the silent-film genre.
This special aiff event will transport you back 80 years to experience the birth of the Saturday afternoon movie. You will feel the drama of this classic film created not by actors&
lines, but by their facial expressions and the incredible film score, performed on an electric theatre organ replete with all the appropriate sound flourishes. The modern instrument may recreate the sounds digitally, but the impact of a live score, a world class performer and a newly restored film will combine for a one of a kind film festival event.
