Spring Dance and Music Concert
For its Spring Dance and Music Concert, Moment in Time Dance Company has decided to add a bit of bluegrass music to the evening. Musician Jerry Faires will be coming to town from Santa Fe to perform a concert of his original music with Don Maddox and Gary Schrodt at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Oak St. Dance Studio, 1287 Oak St., Ashland.
Faires grew up in Edinburg, Texas, just 13 miles from the Mexican border. The songs he heard on the radio included Rancheras and Norte&
241;o conjunto music, Texas swing and honky tonk bands, country, gospel, bluegrass, as well as RB. A singer all his life, he took to writing his own songs when he turned 23. Since moving to New Mexico in 1968 Faires has been crafting jewelry, working in silver, turquoise, and other fine stones.
Faires wrote "Precious Memories Was a Song" that was featured on the 2005 Grammy nominated Album by Norman and Nancy Blake, of The Morning Glory Ramblers. Peter Rowan and Tony Rice featured "Come Back to Old Santa Fe" a song co-written by Faires and Rowan in their 2004 album "You Were There For Me." Faires' most recent album release is "Radio."
Moment in Time Dance Company, a modern dance company, was founded in 1996 and continues to work steadily, including regular performances in the Celebration of the Human Spirit concerts. Six regional dancers from the company will be performing for this concert: Joyce Galvin, Leah Schrodt, Stephanie Smith, Emily Baylor, Cindy McCraney, and Cassie McCraney. They will premiere two new dances from company choreographer Rosalind Schrodt, "Calling All Angels" and "The Silversmith." "Silversmith" will be danced to Jerry Faires' music.
Tickets are $12 at the door, first come first seated. Some of the seating will be on pillows but there will be many chairs for people who can not sit on pillows.
