Third Friday art walk in Medford

Growing up in a converted chicken house with no electricity or running water and a dirt floor, Kim Faucher learned to appreciate nature rather than material possessions. Faucher's father managed a sawmill in Northern California, where Faucher was first exposed to art — drawing on blocks of mill ends. She has long since established herself as an accomplished watercolorist.

"Meanderings," a collection of watercolor paintings by Faucher, will be featured through November at Art du Jour Gallery, 213 E. Main St., Medford. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. during the Third Friday art walk, Nov. 19, in downtown Medford.

"This show includes Lithia Park and other local sites, the Southwest, fantasy and my own backyard," says Faucher in a press release.

The artist, who moved to Medford in 2001, continues to paint "en plein air" as much as possible as well as at her Leaping Turtle Studio in Medford. For more information, call 541-770-3190 or see www.artdujourgallery.com.

Rogue Gallery & Art Center, 40 N. Bartlett St., Medford, will continue to display its Day of the Dead-inspired exhibit through Wednesday, Nov. 24. "Viva La Vida: Synthesis of Cultures" features paintings, drawings, prints, collages and sculptures by 24 Los Angeles artists and explores traditions of ancestral remembrance shared by cultures worldwide.

For the fast-approaching season of holiday gift-giving, support local artisans by shopping Rogue Gallery's "Spirit in Hand" Holiday Art Boutique. The boutique features handcrafted items such as jewelry, dyed and woven scarves, handbags, soaps, pottery, sculpture, decorative glassware, dining accessories and small artworks by regional artists and artisans. Prices range from $15 to $300, and the majority of proceeds benefit the artists. "Spirit in Hand" opens Friday, Nov. 19, and runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 24 (closed Nov. 24-29 for Thanksgiving). The gallery boutique will be open until 8 p.m. on Third Fridays, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17.

"It's part of our mission to support local artists and give them a venue for exposing their art," says Heather Crow, the gallery's development director.

Chefs participating in the monthly Downtown Throwdown will concoct a dish featuring November's tear-jerking ingredient — the onion. Look for white balloons outside participating venues. Food service is limited to the first 100 people.
